ATAGO

“I went to Mount Atago many times with my Master Morihiro Saito and many times we went to the waterfall for purification by practising Misogi 禊 an ancient Shinto practice”

The birth of ATAGO

Ōsensei Morihei Ueshiba is the creator of the Martial Art known throughout the world as Aikido. From 1942 until his death Ōsensei lived in Iwama a small country town where he was able to create and develop the Art of Aikido.

A few kilometres from Iwama there is a mountain called Atago at the top of which there is a temple where Master Ueshiba used to go for his prayer and meditation. There is a film where Master Morihiro Saito supports Ōsensei on the stairway to the Atago temple.

I lived for a long time in Iwama staying in the house of Ōsensei Morihei Ueshiba. Many times I went to Mount Atago with my Master Morihiro Saito and many times we went to the waterfall for purification.

When after forty years of practice I decided to create my own organisation, it was a revelation to find that the acronym for Association Takemusu Aiki Giorgio Oscari was ATAGO. Perhaps a gift from my Master or Ōsensei or the Art of Aikido. I am proud to protect and pass on what I have learnt and teach it with an extreme sense of responsibility to our teachers and students.
